DAAD Award

Award for international students

For the third time, SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences calls for nominations for the DAAD Award for International Students. With this award, we honour a student of SRH Berlin from any of our three campuses who has shown outstanding academic achievements and intercultural commitment at the university and/or in the social environment. The prize is endowed with 1,000 €. 

Students can apply until 27.11.2023; details are below.

As part of the STIBET programme, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) enables German universities to award this prize once a year; the funds are provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

More about the award

Any SRH Berlin-member can nominate a suitable candidate but students who recognise themselves in the award criteria can can apply by themselves.

Students from any SHR Berlin school and any campus as well as graduates, who finished within the past eight months, can apply or be nominated with the completed documents, if they:

  • have shown outstanding social commitment at SRH Berlin or in their private environment,
  • achieved good to very good academic results,
  • posses any citizenship but the German one,
  • were awarded their higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur etc.) outside of Germany, so-called Bildungsausländer.  

Bachelor's students should be at least in their 2nd year of study, Master's students should be at least in their 2nd semester of study.

The DAAD Award cannot be granted to international students with a German Abitur (so-called Bildungsinländer) or exchange students. It cannot be divided among several students and, if possible, the candidates should still be in Germany when the award is presented. Furthermore, the award is not a research prize and is not intended to honour a scientific thesis. 

The candidate should hand in the following documents as one document (pdf) to kirsten.matthes@srh.de:

  • application letter/cover letter which describes the achievements in detail, but no more than two pages
  • CV in table form
  • current Transcript of Records or final transcript with the GPA 
  • is possible, a letter of recommendation (by email to kirsten.matthes@srh.de), in which the applicants academic achievements and the suitability for the award are described by outlining the socio-social commitment
  • if applicable, proof of activity outside the universityif applicable, proof about the engagement either at SRH Berlin or in his or her environment

A selection committee chooses the award winner. The selection is paper-based, meaning that there will be no interviews. The decision is made by circular procedure.

Applications are accepted until 27.11.2023 at midnight Berlin time. Any applications which arrive later than that cannot be considered anymore.

The award winner will be informed in writing after the selection; we publish the award on our website.
