Students develop innovative Apps

Students have developed innovative Supply Chain Apps, including a customer status app, a warehouse space tool, and an inventory manager. They learned programming and agile methods in this hands-on course.

The students from the SRH Digital Supply Chain Management study program created innovative suppy chain apps as part of their studies. The teams worked together and created new apps for communication, inventory management and inventory space identification.

In the course App Development in the Digital SCM program, the students were introduced into programming and the use of integrated programming tools. Following the processes for software development, the teams were tasked to create a new business-to-business solution for a supply chain task.
One team created an App that helps companies to communicate the order status with their customers. The app shows all open orders and allows the user to send an advanced shipment note to their customers. The app provides a customer status as well.

The next team created a tool for inventory management. They let companies look for inventory space. Space providers can offer spaces and anyone looking for a temporary inventory location can search for the right place, including filtering by size and price. Another team created an inventory app maintaining the inventory levels for different products. The user can add inventory items and update inventory quantities.
The students had no exposure to app programming before and learned many new concepts including using source code version management tools and agile programming. All students were happy to gather critical know-how on software development and programming.

As one student put it: „I learned a lot in this class, I did not believe 5 weeks ago that our team would be able to produce a working app. This was a fantastic opportunity to grow with a challenging task.“

In the app programming class, the students from the Digital Supply Chain Management study program learned platform independent programming with Flutter for app development on mobile devices.
