I wanted to study abroad, particularly in Portugal for two main reasons: 1) Reconnect with my parental roots, see if I recognised myself in any of them and 2) study how the film sector was working because I hope to work in it in the future. To prepare I made sure to reach out early with the international office and see what was needed so I could deal with the paperwork as soon as possible. In the end, the university I went to was not the one I had in mind in the beginning, but I am just glad to have gotten the opportunity and for DAB to reach out to me and inform me that there was a university in Portugal that I could apply for.

The trip to Macedonia was full of learning experiences. I got to learn about their culture and also about the people, their government, and their bureaucracy. During this time, I got to eat their local cuisine and learnt some things to make as well. This internship made me self-sufficient. It helped me think more analytically and improved my ability to think outside the box. This is the time that I will always remember for the rest of the life as it gave me many experiences.

I personally valued this visit very highly because through personal contact and exchange of ideas we were able to understand each other’s needs in terms of research areas, student involvement, publication funding, and the need for organizing guest lectures and seminar in exchange at each institution in the future.
