The BA Creative Industries Management study programme adapts all-time management classics to the complex and dynamic world of the cultural and creative industries and the broader creative economy. Communication, culture, and arts as well as entrepreneurship have been added to the course to develop your critical understanding and diverse skill set.

During your studies, you can focus on one of three areas: Music, Visual Arts or General Creative Industries Management. This English-language programme in the heart of cosmopolitan Berlin attracts German and international students from all over the world who have talent, tolerance and want to do business in new way. They cherish learning and working across cultural boundaries. You become part of a diverse, international, and supportive community whose members co-create their learning experiences on a day-to-day basis.

You will learn about diverse business models, strategies and practices and develop your own identity as a creative manager. You will be able to train your management skills and deepen your knowledge about non-traditional industries and the arts, as well as social, sustainable, and cultural organisations. You will gain further practical experience in managing and marketing creative processes and products through numerous hands-on projects with fellow students across the entire School of Popular Arts and in collaboration with our diverse network partners.

In the first semester, you will dive into the world of creative industries, visit places and speak to practitioners from different fields. You will learn to analyse business models, research cases, and apply management tools and entrepreneurial strategies. You will discuss and interpret different media and art forms. You will tackle your first practical project from areas such as Music (e.g. “chamber concerts”, “miking and mixing”, “create your track”, “synthesizer”), Visual Arts (e.g. “curating”, “fashion branding”, “film project”), Creative Writing (“novel writing”, “lifestyle journalism”) or General Creative Industries Management (e.g. “radio”, “games”, “typography”, “design training”, “user experience”, “luxury industry”).

In the second semester you explore marketing as a socio-economic and cultural practice. This includes aesthetic strategies, architectures and communication. You become acquainted with international marketing strategies and intercultural communication and study a foreign language. You will also work on another interdisciplinary project from an area of your choice with your fellow students and develop your organisational, social and personal skills.

In this semester you will be able to apply digital and marketing communication management strategies, and work with digital media technology to create your own digital content. This is framed by media law so that you can handle contracts and deal with issues of copyright, trademarks, and licensing. You will also carry out another practical project from the pool that offers new projects every semester across the entire School of Popular Arts, mostly in cooperation with industry practitioners and companies.

Being able to gain funding, working with budgets and writing invoices for your work are essential skills in the creative industries and beyond. In addition to accounting and finance topics, you will learn about and apply structured project management concepts and methods in a social or sustainability-oriented practical project. You also develop your management research methods while learning about innovative artistic approaches to research. Additionally, you will carry out an entrepreneurial project in the SRH Start-up Lab Berlin.

5. Semester

Internship/Study Abroad

In the fifth semester, you will either do an internship at a company of your choice, assisted by our career service team, or a study abroad semester. The internship/study abroad semester corresponds to a student workload of 750 hours and is worth 30 credit points.

You will learn to communicate strategically with different audiences in the Public Relations & Artist Management seminar and will be able to apply these techniques to further your own leadership style and professional success in the modules Creative Career Development and Organisation & Leadership. You will learn how to further innovation, to develop organisations and entrepreneurial ventures, and to drive change in the context of a growing demand for innovative approaches in the business and creative world. This is linked to critical analyses of Popular Culture, as we find ever-changing creative newness in global TV and media products. Finally, you will be writing a Bachelor's thesis on a self-chosen topic, supervised by our professorial staff that have internationally-recognised research and practical expertise in a variety of creative, cultural and management areas.

What are sustainable brands and how do they communicate? In a joint workshop, students from the B.A. Creative Industries Management and the University of Portsmouth learn and work together to define personas, target groups and messages for brands from the automotive, fast and luxury fashion sectors.

Admission requirements

Our requirements

Admission requirements vary according to the educational background and citizenship of all applicants. Our admission requirements are in accordance with German legal stipulations. 

The basic requirements are:

  • General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or university of applied sciences entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife). In case you have not graduated yet, please apply with your existing transcripts or your latest interim certificate. However, we need your final degree certificate before you can start your studies.
  • Please note that applicants with foreign degrees might be eligible for direct entry. This means that applicants who meet the requirements DON'T need to do a foundation year.

Fees and Funding

Your tuition fees

As a state-recognised, private university, the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences is financed by tuition fees. This revenue goes towards equipping our campus, providing services for our students, and quality assurance. In this way we ensure that you receive the best possible education under optimal study conditions.
